At least fifty-two thousand South Sudanese fled into Uganda in January alone, according to the United Nations Special Advisor on Prevention of Genocide.

Adama Dieng says the displaced persons mainly from Kajo-Keji gave terrible reports on killing of civilians, destruction of homes and sexual violence.

‘The freedom of movement of residents has also reportedly been limited, he adds.

‘Other residents who fled their homes and moved to South Sudan- Uganda border area were reportedly intercepted by government forces,’ says the Advisor.

The official notes that some of those seeking refuge reportedly used informal border crossing points to enter Uganda as armed groups prevented them from major roads.

The army force displaced people to travel through the bush, without access to food and water, Dieng says.
