The implementation of peace agreement has been severely compromised by recent events of fighting, says Chairman of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission or JMEC.

Festus Mogae says clear lack of faithfulness in the warring parties to implement the peace deal in letter and spirit is another serious obstacle.

But, he firmly believes that there is no alternative for peace in South Sudan apart from implementing August 2015 accord.

President Mogae was officially opening National Constitution Amendment Committee, NCAC review meeting in Juba on Thursday.

He agrees with NCAC Chairman, Gichira Kibara that the committee is a very critical mechanism in the implementation of the peace agreement.

The work of the NCAC was frustrated by government initial refusal to accept the first IGAD appointee to chair the committee.
