Government and opposition forces are not complying with the provisions of the Permanent Ceasefire, says Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring Mechanism.

The Mechanism in a statement on Friday says its recent patrols in Yei, Mundri, Maridi, Raja and Pariang found that both warring parties violated the agreement.

Conflict continues and the civilian population is subject to looting, rape, restrictions and killing, it adds.

Permanent Ceasefire Mechanism points out that awareness of both the agreement and the security arrangements are limited.

The Mechanism pledges to continue patrolling, disseminating information about the Ceasefire and maintaining contact with all stakeholders.

It recommends that JMEC and all actors ensure that both civil and military authorities comply with the provision.

Ethnic tensions need to be addressed, and there must be inclusive political dialogue to stop continued conflict, the Mechanism adds.

It is increasing the number of long-range patrols to areas where there are no Monitoring and Verification Team.
