South Sudanese to face extreme food insecurity, OCHA warns

South Sudanese are likely to face extreme levels of food insecurity from February to July 2017, UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs or OCHA warns.
 
OCHA in its bulletin says, fighting in late January and early February around Wau Shilluk and Malakal town, Upper Nile has displaced civilians.
 
Several humanitarian activities have also been suspended, it adds.
 
OCHA says more than 50 thousand South Sudanese fled to Uganda in January.
 
It reports that Wau Shilluk which had arround 20,400 IDPs and host community before the fighting is reported to be largely deserted.
 
Most civilians have also fled to Lul, Padiet, Pathaw and Kodok, OCHA adds.
 
It says there are unverified reports that, civilians were killed during the fighting in Wau Shilluk which began on 25 January.
 
Renewed clashes were reported on 3 February.
 
Separately, clashes have also been reported near Renk, including in Ghabat, Abukhadr and Mamur on the western bank of the Nile, says OCHA.
 
It reports that after extensive negotiations, a humanitarian team travelled to Greater Baggari area, outside Wau town.
 
Following disruptions to humanitarian operations, health partners have stepped up response to cholera in Panyijiar County.
