Government recognises media role in peace making

The Undersecretary in the Ministry of Information has recognised the role of media in peace building after violence in December 2013 and July 2016.
 
Justine Aler De Mayen acknowledgment was during the opening of three-day workshop on sensitive conflict reporting on Tuesday in Juba.
 
Journalists have often been arrested and media outlets closed down.
 
But, Aler says the role of media in South Sudan is in the right direction for peace foundation.
 
The official says peace comes from grassroots, not from the top leadership.
 
He says journalists are ambassadors of peace for humanity because they disseminate harmony, justice; liberty and equality.
 
Swedish Head of Mission in Juba, Henric R√°sbrant urges South Sudan to imitate their 250 years of press freedom and expression as a cornerstone for democratic and peaceful society.
 
The United Nations Development Programme, UNDP supports community radios in promoting peace and reconciliation, says official Judy Wakahiu.
 
She explains that the media should deliver important information, education and entertainment for peaceful co-existence.
 
UNDP in partnership with UNESCO have pledged continuous support for Radio for Peace Network in South Sudan.
