The UN Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict urges Member States and warring parties to take immediate act to end grave violations against kids.

Leila Zerrougui in a her report to Security Council on Tuesday, said their basic rights continue to be violated in Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Syria, South Sudan and Yemen.

Thousands of children are killed, maimed, recruited and face harsh crises and actors contribute to very difficult situation for their protection, she regretted.

Zerrougui recommended Member States to urgently adopt protocols for the handover of children in conflict areas to protection actors.

‘Providing children with reintegration opportunities must be the prevailing approach’, she added.

The Representative said UN had interacted with warring parties in Central African Republic, Colombia, Mali, Myanmar, Nigeria, Philippines, South Sudan and Sudan.

She expressed confidence that the increase in dialogue and progress in the implementation of UN Action Plans will continue with direct benefits for children.
