New UNMISS Chief arrives in Juba

The new head of the UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS arrived in Juba on Friday evening to take up his duties.
 
David Shearer told journalists at Juba International Airport that he came to contribute for stability and peace to realize prosperity in South Sudan.
 
The UNMISS chief said he is going to listen to what people tell him in the coming few weeks.
 
Shearer is scheduled to meet senior government officials including Foreign Minister Deng Alor.
 
The former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon replaced Ellen Margrethe Loej with Shearer on December 23, 2016.
 
The new UNMISS chief had served as UN deputy envoy in Iraq from 2007 to 2009, following UN assignments in Afghanistan, Lebanon, Israel, Rwanda, Liberia and the Balkans.
