Government launches agriculture master plan

The government Thursday launched a five-year framework that seeks to boost agriculture development and food security.
 
The Comprehensive Agriculture and Irrigation Development Master Plan will to guide line ministries and partners in implementing projects, Radio Bakhita reports.
 
Animal Resources and Fisheries Minister, James Janka Duku, says the plan indentified 113 investment opportunities in crop farming, livestock, fisheries and agro processing.
 
Ministries of Agriculture, Animal Resources, Environment and Irrigation would expedite the process of implementing the projects listed in the master plan to end poverty and hunger in the country, he notes.
 
Janka calls on the national government and development partners to mobilize funds for the implementation of the projects.
 
Project team leader, John Pangech says the master plan would help variety of agriculture sector by adopting modern farming techniques.
 
South Sudan is blessed with enormous agricultural wealth that still remains untapped.
 
The UN warned last year that 4.3 million South Sudanese face severe food shortage.
