Queen of England appoints South Sudan woman member of British Empire

The Queen of England has appointed Girls’ Education South Sudan or GESS team leader as a member of the order of the British Empire in the New Year honors list.
 
Team Leader, Akuja de Garang, says the award is part of the respect that recognizes people who made positive contribution.
 
She believes her commitment to contribute to the development of South Sudan in girls’ education, has impressed the Queen of England to award her.
 
The number of girls enrolled in school has reached to over 100 thousand since the beginning of the girls’ education program, despite challenges in South Sudan.
 
De Garang appreciates the Queen and the people who nominated her as a member of the Order of the British Empire.
 
She advises South Sudanese to persevere and stick to their objectives.
 
GESS program is an initiative funded by UK to support girls’ education.
