Residents of Tonj County complain of food shortages due to little rain last year.
Akal-Keu Village Chief Ramadan Dallenga says rains stopped in September and led beans, sesame and other food crops to dry, Radio Don Bosco reports.
The Chief says the food crisis have resulted to theft to the extent that criminals loot at gunpoint at night hours.
Chief Dallenga complains that ox-ploughs are now being sold in some markets between 18 and 20 thousand pounds.
He urges the government to distribute the ox-ploughs through them.
Director-General in Tonj State Ministry of Agriculture Andrea Adup admits that ox-ploughs given to some beneficiaries who lack bulls are ones being sold in the markets last year.
He explains that the ministry has a new strategy which will require two bulls and people to be trained before distribution of ox-ploughs.
Adup added that the ministry will receive three hundred ox-ploughs from their partners.
Nura Aker of War-Machar blames the poor harvest on early stoppage of the rains which led some of their crops to dry.
She encourages everyone to cultivate this year with the simplest method of fighting hunger.
