Yei Catholic Bishop fears that many people in the diocese’s rural areas are dying in silence despite the return of calm in the town.
Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe says he fears many are dying from lack of drugs, torture or killings in villages, Radio Easter reports.
Yei Catholic Diocese has nine parishes, covering Yei River State and some counties in Amadi State.
Bishop Lodu says only two parishes are functional and priests could not reach services to Christians in other parishes following the eruption of violence in July this year.
He calls on the parties to the agreement to bring a ‘complete peace’ to end the suffering of the South Sudanese people.
Bishop Lodu thanks the government for restoring relative calm in the town, putting off random gunshots, killings and reducing arrests.
Diocesan Secretary General Fr Emmanuel Lodongo Sebit says only Christ the King Cathedral and Sacred Heart Parish-Lomin work in the whole diocese.
He says insecurity has compressed operation of Christ the King Parish to a mile within the town, with little services given to them.
Fr Lodongo says the rest of the parishes were looted, destroyed and Christians displaced or fled for refuge.
He calls for continuous prayers for peace in South Sudan and political leaders.
The Catholic Bishop and the Secretary-General were giving Christmas messages at Christ the King Cathedral on Christmas Day.
