Medicines Sans Frontiers or MSF has opened a Primary Health Care Centre in Yei following an assessment of medical needs in the area.

MSF in a statement says it decided to set up the centre to improve healthcare for the population in the town.

Since the fighting broke out in the area earlier this year, access to health facilities has deteriorated.

Many medical staff left the area and availability of medications and other medical supply is limited.

The agency wants to treat main diseases in the area, such as respiratory infections, malaria, explains Marie Claret, MSF Head of mission in South Sudan.

She says the centre will be for everybody seeking medical assistance.

The head of mission expresses happiness in establishing the medical facility with hope it will make a difference for the local population.
