African Union or AU is visiting South Sudan for four days in solidarity mission with women, says Special Envoy on Women in Peace and Security in Africa.
Bineta Diop says AU has declared 2016 a year of women’s human rights, but continues to receive reports of violation of women’s rights in South Sudan.
Diop stresses that women need to participate in bringing peace, but not to be seen as victims.
Insecurity hinders women from movements and activities in the country, she narrates their concerns.
South Sudanese women also express the need for reconciliation and end to violence, Diop says.
The AU Special Envoy made the statement after a close-door meeting with South Sudanese women.
