The International Organization for Migration, IOM is working with vulnerable populations across South Sudan to reduce the risk of transmission of HIV/AIDS and increase access to treatment.

The Ministry of Health estimates 2.7 percent of adults were infected with HIV from 2012.

13 percent of the infected were children under the age of 15 years, the Ministry of Health says.

IOM’s prevention programmes aim at reducing the prevalence and incidence of HIV in South Sudan among key populations more vulnerable to the disease.

IOM has trained 177 peer counsellors within communities to conduct outreach activities and encourage uptake of main HIV prevention, treatment and support activities.
