Increase of cases of AIDS is due to displacement and lack of sufficient information in South Sudan, says HIV/AIDS Commission Director in the former Central Equatoria State.
James Rondyang made this pronouncement on Monday during a debate organized as part of activities leading to the World AIDS Day commemoration in December 1, Radio Bakhita reports.
Rondyang encourages members of the public to learn more about issues of the killer disease in the country.
Representative of UNAIDS in South Sudan urges young people to take action against the pandemic as they are the most affected section in the country.
She says about 180 thousand people are living with HIV/Aids in South Sudan.
Twenty one thousand of those affected are young people between the ages of 15 to 24 years, adds the representative.
The world AIDS Day will be commemorated on Thursday under the theme: ‘Hands up for prevention’ to raise awareness about the dangers of the pandemic.
