Population displacement continues to rise in South Sudan

South Sudan approaches the fourth year of armed conflict with continuous rise in displacement, says the International Organization for Immigration, IOM.
 
The number of displaced South Sudanese has now reached 1.87 million since December 2013, the agency records.
 
Over 200 thousand IDPs are hosted in UN protection sites across the country.
 
The IDP population in Bentiu has reached over 100 thousand representing an increase of over 14 percent since August, this year.
 
More than seven thousand people have arrived at UN Bentiu protection site since the end of October this year.
 
Over 40 thousand residents of Wau are sheltering at UNMISS protection site in the area.
 
Violence also continues to increase displacement in Yei, Central Equatoria region and other parts of the country.
 
Worsening trends of insecurity are preventing IDPs from returning home in many parts of the country, says IOM Chief of Mission, William Barriga.
 
But, Chairman of Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, JMEC, Festus Mogae was quoted by CCTV as saying ‘the implementation of 2015 Peace Agreement is moving in the right direction’.
