Authorities in Wau State Ministry of Education have discovered that seventy six thousand and seven hundred South Sudanese Pounds of GESS cash transfer has been grabbed by teachers.

GESS Cash transfers are direct payments to girls to retain them in schooling, Radio Voice of Hope reports.

Rukeya Madut, Wau State Minister of Education reveals that teachers at Achol Majok Primary School and the head master took away one thousand and three hundred Pounds from 59 pupils each.

She confirms that the head teacher has been arrested for investigation.

Ms Madut criticizes the teachers’ act of stealing money, saying it does not reflect characters of qualified teachers in the country.

She says the ministry will form a committee to gather information about the distribution of the money in every school.

The minister warns that the government will take legal action against teachers involved in corrupting money.

Many pupils express their deep regrets.

They say the teachers threatened them they will not receive their cash grants next year, should they report the matter.

Achol Majok Primary School is one of the private schools operating in Wau State.

The school allegedly did not register in the State Ministry of General Education and Instruction.
