Yei River State government is advocating for the presence of United Nations Mission in the area to play a neutral role in facilitating protection of civilians and humanitarian aid.

Jackson Abugo Gama, State Political Affairs Advisor says the presence of the peacekeeping mission in Yei means protection of civilians from direct and indirect military attacks, Radio Easter reports.

He explains that innocent civilians in areas of conflict become victims of revenge attacks most often.

The advisor regrets the fact that many citizens have fled the state due to conflict, abandoning their agricultural activities in fear.

Advisor Abugo says the state government admits that insecurity has made accessibility beyond the town impossible.

UNMISS has proposed a base in Yei to deter attacks against civilians according to Civil Affairs Officer, Nadeem Bashir.
