Young Stars football team felt in a road ambush on Torit-Juba road leaving one person dead and six others wounded on Tuesday evening.
Jeremiah Fadiri says the police managed to rescue most of the players after exchanging fire with the unknown gunmen for at least 15 minutes, Radio Emmanuel reports.
Imotong State Football Association Chairperson, Anthony Formato, who sustained gunshot, says no valuable items to be looted in the vehicles carrying more than 15 players.
He says is recovering from his wound with the help of the doctors.
The Young Stars Torit played Al-Salam of Wau over the weekend and lost 3-0 in the first leg in the national tournament.
Torit-Juba road is one of the risky roads to travel in South Sudan.
