The African Union Peace and Security Council has challenged South Sudan presidency to ensure peace implementation is inclusive.

The Council in a statement follows a field mission from October 28 to 31, urges the presidency to carry out nation-wide civic education to generate necessary force for successful implementation of peace deal.

It calls on President Salva Kiir, First Vice Taban Deng Gai and cabinet members to urgently establish mechanisms of accountability, justice and reconciliation.

Issues relating to sexual violence must be addressed in a timely manner to ensure justice for the survivors, the Council says.

It urges all South Sudanese to embrace dialogue to find a consensual solution to challenges holding back the implementation of the peace agreement.

The field mission to South Sudan consists of all 15 members of the Council led by Ambassador Catherine Muigai Mwangi, Permanent Representative of Kenya.

The objective of the mission was to gather first-hand information on political, security, humanitarian and socio-economic situations in South Sudan.
