The Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa, AMECEA in partnership with Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference, SCBC-Justice and Peace Desk have trained church personnel in Juba on peace building and emergency awareness.
Jim Long John, SCBC’s Director of Justice and Peace Desk says the training on emergency responsiveness follows experiences of previous conflict, making people to seek protection in churches.
Anthony Mbandi, AMECEA Coordinator says the origin for the workshop is the slow response to people who seek shelter in churches during emergencies.
Berhanu Tamene, who works with Symposium Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar, says South Sudan’s emergency preparedness training is the first of its kind.
Tamene says they are going to engage citizens and government on emergency awareness.
The training had drawn 15 participants including priests, sisters, brothers and other religious leaders.
The participants are set to tackle South Sudan’s humanitarian aid during emergencies.
The two-day workshop concluded this Tuesday afternoon.
