The International Organization for Migration or IOM says it has led a mass measles vaccination campaign in Abyei for 21,500 children under the age of five years within October this year.
IOM in a statement says the immunization is a response to confirmed measles outbreak in Abyei Administrative Area.
Measles is one of the leading causes of death among young children in the region where access to health care is limited, explains IOM South Sudan Chief of Mission William Barriga.
The rapid response mission to Abyei was funded by USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance and the Government of Japan.
