Kenyan has proposed motion to impose sanctions against South Sudan leaders who are frustrating the recently signed peace deal.

The motion aims at freezing assets of South Sudan leaders perpetrating conflict, says Ndung’u Githinji, the National Assembly Defence and Foreign Relations Committee Chairman, Radio Bakhita reports.

Citizens TV quoted him saying families of the leaders seek refuge in foreign countries including Kenya, where they have also been accused of investing assets worth millions of US dollars.

MPs from the Security Committee led by, Asman Kamama, supported the motion that it is the only way to cut off the financial muscle of those perpetrating war in Juba.

He says there are South Sudanese leaders who live and invest in Addis Ababa, Nairobi, and Khartoum and yet perpetrate war in the country.

Presidential Spokesperson Ateny Wek Ateny told Radio Bakhita that the threat is for the leaders who are against peace.

According to the latest report by American actor, George Clooney, South Sudan’s politician and military elites looted money from their country and bought expensive assets in Nairobi and other capitals within East Africa.

Among the many details outlined in the report are pictures of luxury villas, said to be owned by politicians and generals in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Australia.
