President Salva Kiir has called for calm and forgiveness among South Sudanese after recent highway attacks that killed at least 20 travellers.

The president made the call on Wednesday while refuting rumours on intended ethnic fighting and his death in Juba.

He says he believes in unity and co-existence of different communities as a nationalist not a tribal leader as some South Sudanese view him.

Earlier on, social media reported that President Kiir has ordered the killing of other ethnic communities.

President Kiir says these are anti-peace elements in the country.

On Tuesday, Jubek State government deployed night patrol forces in the outskirts of Juba City to control increasing levels of insecurity.
