Civilians become victims of any confrontation between the government forces and the armed groups in Yei, said Yei Catholic Bishop.

Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe told a Presidential delegation that government forces and armed groups should fight in areas without the civil population to avoid loss of innocent lives and interruptions of activities, Radio Easter reported.

He regretted the recent displacement of civilians in some key residential areas in Yei town such as Sopiri, Dam, Lupapa, Sanja Siri and partly Lutaya.

Bishop Lodu expresses unhappiness over contradiction between the words of the state authorities and the actions of the forces.

He said many civilians stopped moving out of the town or to agricultural lands due to fear for their lives.

The Catholic Bishop calls on citizens and rival factions to end the hostilities and work for peace.
