Uncertainties in Yei have led to a drop in the number of teachers and learners in schools, reports the Ministry of Education in Yei River State.

This was revealed in a handover ceremony after the ministry assessed the number of schools operating, learners and teachers in 28 schools in the town, Radio Easter reports.

Amule Felix, Director-General in the ministry says the assessment was also to establish the previous number of teachers versus the current one.

Felix says the sample statistics discovered that 19 primary, secondary and nursery schools are functional while nine schools are not.

The ministry is ‘very impressed’ that it got 194 teachers present comprising 153 male and 41 female, he adds.

For learners, Amule says the sample statistics point that there are 2,329 learners including 1,007 girls and 1,254 boys.

The rapid schools assessment was carried out between September 13 and 20 this year.
