The globe is today Wednesday celebrating the 50th anniversary of the World Teachers Day under the theme: ‘Valuing teachers, improving their status’.
United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization or UNESCO says this year, the commemoration is within the new global education 2030 agenda adopted by the world community last year.
It adds that the Education 2030 Framework for Action, highlights the fact that teachers are fundamental for reasonable and quality education.
UNESCO stresses that teachers be ‘sufficiently trained, recruited and paid well, motivated and supported within efficient and effectively governed systems.
To achieve the goal, it is necessary not only to substantially increase the supply of qualified teachers but to motivate them by valuing their work, it says.
