The government of Western Lakes State and UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS on Wednesday celebrated International Peace Day under the theme: ‘Sustainable goals, building blocks for peace’.
State Assembly Speaker Marik Nanga Marik cautioned people against spoiling the local peace agreed between Kuei, Ruop and Pakam of Rumbek North, Radio Good News reported.
He pointed out that it was not easy to bring the two warring groups jointly, but with the help of God, they agreed to come together.
Local Chief Deer Makuer Gol urged people of Western Lakes to embrace peace and refrain from revenge.
Governor Abraham Makoi Bold Kodi applauded partners for working hard with the state government to bring peace to the community.
He urged UN agencies, UNMISS and other partners to create more developmental activities that will engage youth to avoid idleness that resulted into killing.
