The UN Refugee Agency or UNHCR strongly denounced violence in Equatoria including recent attacks on Lasu settlement, killing a young Congolese refugee.
The agency in a statement on Thursday said recently armed groups repeatedly entered the settlement assaulted refugees, looted and destroyed humanitarian goods and property.
UNHCR added that armed groups on September 19 penetrated the settlement and ransacked the primary health care centre and took medical supplies and furniture.
They also seized radio communication equipment and solar panels in the camp, leaving the population without drinking water, the agency said.
The armed men raped a Congolese woman and abducted two Sudanese women who remain in captivity in an unknown location.
Ahmed Warsame, UNHCR’s Representative in South Sudan decried the horrific acts that caused death, fear and suffering of innocent people.
He urged all armed parties to respect the civilian and humanitarian character of asylum and refugee settlements.
