Unknown gunmen kidnapped two body guards of the late Major Abel Lemi in Yei, the government has confirmed, says Yei River State Government Spokesperson.
Stephen Lado Onesimo says armed men ambushed the vehicle of the late killed him and kidnapped his body guards in Lutaya residential area last Saturday, Radio Easter reports.
Minister Lado notes that security agents hurried to scene of the incident and resulted to mass displacement of residents in Lutaya, Sanjasiri and Dam.
The Government spokesperson says the residents will return to their respective areas once it is secure.
Yei River State is hosting internally displaced people from Jubek, Amadi and Maridi States whose humanitarian situation and that of the host communities is ‘desperate’.
Lado appeals to the UN agencies to help the over three thousand displaced people who fled to the ECSSS Church following the incident.
State Governor David Lokonga during the burial of the late Major Lemi on Monday, asked the armed opposition to pursue dialogue to resolve grievances.
