UN Refugee Agency in coordination with South Sudan Commission for Refugee Affairs opened a new camp at Pamir for Sudanese refugees relocating from Yida.
In a statement on Thursday, UNHCR says the new camp is ready to accommodate 20 thousand people, Radio Bakhita reported.
UNHCR said in collaboration with and partners, it has demarcated five thousand family plots, built a primary school and a health care centre there.
UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner George Okoth-Obbo said the aim is to ensure that refugees access quality services according to the international standards.
He added that thousands more are scheduled to relocate by the end of the year.
Okoth said additional contributions are required to extend development of the camp to its full capacity of 52 thousand people.
One of the refugees said she decided to move to Pamir because she could not afford paying school fees for her children.
Governor of Ruweng State, Mayol Kur Akuei said refugees and local communities have been living together peacefully, sharing land and resources for the past five years.
