Authorities of Imotong say seven inmates have died in different days in the last two weeks, while undergoing treatment at Torit State Civil Hospital.
Doctors say the inmates were brought to the hospital late when they could no longer respond to medication, Radio Emmanuel reports.
Lina Claudio, a nurse at Torit Civil Hospital, says most of those who died where diagnosed for malaria, typhoid and tuberculosis.
State prison authorities say most of the inmates suffer from contagious disease and malnutrition.
Colonel William Amareng, Torit State Prison Director, says the inmates are leaving under bad condition.
He adds that food is not enough for the nearly 300 inmates at the prison.
Torit Mayor, Eddy William, says the issue of the prison lacking food was brought to his office on Wednesday, but that the prison is under state authorities not Municipality.
Radio Emmanuel could not reach state officials to comment on the prison condition.
