A number of localities in the Nuba Mountains have experienced little and late rainfall for a long time, raising complains that the region could face hunger.
Mayor of Lugi town Mohamed A Natar Abaro in Nuba Mountains declared that the situation is likely to reduce crop production, Radio Voice of Peace reported.
He said production would be low because people started planting in July and the weeds overtook the crops, making it difficult to weed.
The General-Director for Agriculture in the region, Osman Tollar Kafe, said the issue of large scale farms in the region is difficulties to maintain.
He called on the communities to take agriculture seriously.
The Director-General clarified that subsistence farming is basic and people should support it before thinking of larger farms.
There has not been rainfall for a number of weeks across the region.
In a related news development, a strong wind on Tuesday afternoon destroyed some crops in Kumbur Payam of Hieban County.
