The Department of Urban Water in the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure of Imotong State says it is fixing all broken pipes in Torit to allow pumping of clean water to hundreds of institutions and the population.

Oyito Baptist Habihoi, Urban Water and Sanitation Director, says the Ministry has reached dozens of institutions with clean water, Radio Emmanuel reported.

The rehabilitation campaign was launched three months ago.

The ministry plans to build up a bigger water network that will cover most residential areas next years, says Oyito.

He adds that connecting most parts of the town will reduce risk of water related diseases like cholera.

The Director says once the water network is completed, families and institutions will be advised to contribute for the maintenance and sustainability of the project.

Many residents of Torit depend on Kineti River to fetch drinking water which in most cases is not treated.
