South Sudan passed Afghanistan with high attacks on aid officials for the first time, says Aid Workers Security report.

The agencies revealed this during the world Humanitarian Day on Friday while honouring 59 aid workers killed in South Sudan, Radio Bakhita reports.

The aid agencies call for an end to attacks on their workers because the acts deprive the people in need.

Mercy Corps Country Representative Deepmala Mahla says ‘South Sudan is in needs of aid more than ever’ because it has the ‘highest inflation rate in the world’.

There is an increasing dependency on humanitarian assistance as malnutrition and other diseases emerged, Ahmed Warsame, says Acting Humanitarian Coordinator.

He also called for translation of government’s commitment in the implementation of the peace agreement into concrete actions to end attack against aid workers.

The Aid agencies urged authorities to investigate the attack on their worker in Terrain hotel in Juba last month.
