UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs or OCHA is today paying tribute to all aid workers killed in line of services in South Sudan.
OCHA is observing a minute of silence at 2 PM in Juba marking World Humanitarian Day to honour colleagues who have tragically lost their lives in aid service.
In a note CRN got, the Office says every day, aid workers in South Sudan risk their lives to deliver assistance to needy.
OCHA says 59 humanitarian workers have been killed since the beginning of the crisis in December 2013.
It declares that in South Sudan, heinous acts have been perpetrated against aid workers.
On 11 July, aid workers staying at Terrain in Juba were attacked by armed men in uniform, a local NGO worker was killed and international aid workers were raped and beaten, OCHA recalls.
The Office deplores attacks on aid workers and threats to humanitarian operations that affect lives of millions of people who rely on help.
