Civil society activists in Torit, Imotong State are supporting the proposed deployment of regional protection forces in to South Sudan to help protect civilians from what they call ‘useless killings’.
Ebul Simon Ohuro, Chairperson of the Civil Society Network, says the government has failed to protect civilians and that there is need for a third protection forces in the country, Radio Emmanuel reports.
Ebul says the regional army must be ready to act according to the specified mandate and also respect the Constitution of South Sudan.
Thomas Lodoviko, South Sudan Youth Initiative for Change Executive Director says the government should cooperate with the regional force.
Lodoviko says the issue of South Sudan is not about power, but saving lives of ordinary citizens which he thinks the third forces could do.
The national government rejected intervention force based on the UN proposal, claiming that the plan is not consistent with the IGAD communiqué.
