Floods due to heavy rains affected eight hundred and twenty houses in Rumbek Central County alone.
In Nyotik Angui 750 houses are in water, 70 houses in Akuach residential area are also affected and other cases reported in Malual-bab villages.
Nyotik Angui Village Chief Jackson Agoi Marial told Radio Good News on Wednesday that the area has been hard hit by floods this year.
He said the inhabitants now live in fear because of waterborne diseases.
He added that stagnant water also destroyed their crops, making life difficult.
The chief requested non-governmental organizations to assist the displaced persons with some plastic sheets for shelter.
