Schools in Yei witnessed a fair turn up of learners following two weeks of blackout due to uncertainties and fear, teachers and learners say.

Last week Municipal, County and State Education officials toured some schools in the town and found that some closed with neither a teacher nor a learner.

But today Monday, Radio Easter went to New Generation Primary and Nursery School which had no learners for the last two weeks, though teachers turned up.

Juma Moses William, head teacher of the school says 180 learners reported on the first day, with more girls than boys.

He says learners testified stories of their colleagues leaving to Uganda while others still keep in the villages and yet to return.

Pupils like Bongo Patrick and Nyachan Christine express happiness upon their return to school to learn.

They call on fellow learners in Yei to go back to school.

Education officials urge parents especially those who fled to return their children to school.
