Shops at Rumbek main market on Thursday afternoon closed down over disruptions from demonstrators returning from peaceful protests at UNMISS base.
An eyewitness said a group of young people stormed the market, throwing stones and looted meat from the butcheries, Radio Good News reported.
The eyewitness said police forces managed to disperse the protesters before causing more destruction in the market.
Hundreds of citizens in Rumbek on Thursday staged a peaceful demonstration to UNMISS compound to present a petition rejecting deployment of proposed African Union troops in the country.
