The World Food Programme or WFP strongly condemns looting of its main warehouse in Juba.
WFP Deputy Regional Director Vernon Archibald in a statement on Thursday, expresses fear that the loss of food supplies will severely hamper their ability to assist thousands of the people.
South Sudan Country Director Joyce Luma says WFP has already provided urgently needed food assistance to thousands of displaced people at UN bases, using stocks from a smaller warehouse.
She says WFP also sheltered some three thousand people in its main office compound.
The country Director calls on the parties responsible for the looting to return the relief supplies so they can be used for assisting thousands of vulnerable civilians.
The warehouse on the west side of Juba serves as WFP’s main logistical hub inside is used to supply operations in the rest of the country.
Before the fighting started at the end of last week, more than 4,500 metric tons of food was in the warehouse, for about 220 thousand people for a month.
