The Voluntary Civil Society Taskforce on the Implementation of the Peace Agreement strongly condemns the recent clashes between SPLA and Opposition forces which started in Juba on Thursday.

The Taskforce leader, Rajab Mohandis, in a statement to the press on Wednesday in Juba, expresses concerns on the magnitude of destruction, loss of lives and property.

He appreciates the quick respond of President Salva Kiir and First Vice Dr Riek Machar to order the soldiers to ceasefire and report back to their barracks.

Mohandis said the Taskforce is concerned with the placement of Juba Airport under UN Mission in South Sudan.

He says the Taskforce recommends immediate restoration of security, law and order to enable the displaced persons to return to their homes.

The Civil Society body calls for revision of the UNMISS mandate and implementation of the security arrangements of the Peace Agreement signed in August last year.

Voluntary Civil Society Taskforce on the Implementation of the Peace Agreement is a coalition of 20 civil society organizations, networks, representatives and leaders of national organizations.
