Women and girls become exposed to sexual violence and exploitation in conflict and population movements, UNICEF reports.

UNICEF says in a statement that it is concerned about the well-being of the displaced women and girls in and around the temporary sites in Wau.

An estimated 30 thousand people have taken shelter in Wau’s temporary sites, the agency says.

UNICEF says at least another 30 thousand citizens living outside Wau have also fled their homes.

UNICEF and partners are reuniting children separated from their families in the displacement sites.

The agency has launched an urgent measles’ immunization campaign for three days to protect 13 thousand children in Wau.

The displaced say they were living in bush for fear of further violence.

They say they were surviving on anything they could feed on.
