The cabinet has directed the Ministries of Justice and Mining to work on the amendment of South Sudan Mining Act, 2012.
Government Spokesperson, Michael Makuei Lueth says the need for the amendment of the Mining Law is a provision in August 2015 peace agreement.
The cabinet directive for change of the Mining Law follows a prompting presentation by Mining Minister, Taban Deng Gai, the Spokesperson says.
The mining sector is expected to boost South Sudan’s staggering economy once exploited.
Deng Gai, the Minister of Mining says the current Mining Law gives too large area of land for explorers; amounting to 2500 square kilometres, which may prove an obstacle to progress, Spokesperson Makuei says.
The official made the statement on Friday after the regular sitting of the Council of Ministers.
