The International Organization for Migration, IOM in partnership with South Sudan Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Immigration has conducted an intensive course to improve security at Juba International Airport.
The workshop aims at promoting interagency cooperation to enhance safety, facilitate transport of persons and goods.
The interagency cooperation also enforces border controls.
IOM and South Sudan Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Immigration have brought together staff working at the entire airport to improve operating procedures.
The workshop also defines roles and responsibilities as guided by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
South Sudan requires effective airport operations to promote the safety of travellers in the country, says David Derthick, IOM Chief of Mission.
The workshop helps build the foundation for developing plans and procedures for aviation and airport security, Derthick reiterates.
In the coming months, IOM will conduct a course on facilitation and border control and continue border management trainings, the official says.
IOM and the government intend to prevent human trafficking and ensure adherence to International Humanitarian Law.
