A new revolutionary group in Wau identified as Islamic Movement was responsible for the recent attacks, says Government Spokesperson.
Michael Makuei Lueth says Ali Tamim Fatak, a veteran South Sudanese politician is the leader of the new Islamic Movement, Radio Bakhita reports.
He decries that some elements of government regular forces have joined the new movement.
Darfur’s Janjaweed militia and Uganda’s Lord Resistance Army have also joined the new Islamic Movement, Makuei says.
The new faction is fully identified as ‘Islamic Movement for Liberation of Raja’, the spokesperson says.
Radio Bakhita could not verify the existence of the Islamic Movement.
The spokesperson says a committee has been formed to investigate Wau violence that claimed many lives, mainly of civilians.
The committee, Makuei says is led by Dr Riak Gai Kok, the Minister of Health.
