The Chairman of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, JMEC has appealed strongly to South Sudan military and political leadership to value the work for peace more than anything contrary.

Festus Mogae expresses worries that the failure of the Joint Military Ceasefire Commission, JMCC means the collapse of the peace agreement.

He says he is troubled to learn that South Sudan military leadership is engaging in carrying out warfare in some parts of the country instead of working for peace.

The conduct of continuous military operations raises suspicion that there is no commitment to the cause of peace, Mogae regrets.

The Chairman of JMEC urges the presidency to recommit to peace implementation by tasking the Joint Military Ceasefire Commission to operate as soon as possible.

The Joint Military Ceasefire Commission is composed of four Deputy Chiefs of General Staff, two from government and two from the SPLM/A-In-Opposition forces.

The military commission is responsible for oversight and co-ordination of forces in cantonment and barracks.

The commission reports to the Commanders in Chief of the respective parties.
