Speed the implementation of economic reforms to save the peace process from reversal as the economic situation worsens, Chairperson of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission or JMEC, alerts the Transitional Government.

Festus Mogae says the country’s economy is at risk of total collapse any time if quick reforms recommended by the International Monetary Fund are not done.

He identifies high inflation, government lack of cash money and suffering of ordinary citizens as dangerous signs of the economy heading to downfall.

Mogae expresses disappointments over disagreement on 28 states, leadership of Transitional National Legislative Assembly and appointment of presidential advisors.

He also decries the hindrance of the work of ceasefire monitors and the total failure of the joint military monitoring mechanism to do anything concrete.

He announces the appointment of Gichira Kibara as the Chairperson for the National Constitution Amendment Committee.

JMEC Chairperson recognises Minister of Interior, General Alfred Lodu Gore’s success in the training of Joint Integrated Police to be deployed in Juba next month.

He urges the Transitional Government to support the progressive efforts of the Ministry of Interior.

Mogae appeals to President Salva Kiir to order all his military officials to allow ceasefire monitors to operate throughout the country without interference.

President Mogae was speaking in an evaluative meeting of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission on Thursday in Juba.
