Citizens in Yei celebrate African Child Day

Citizens in Yei on Thursday celebrated the African Child Day in Lasu Payam headquarters.
 
The celebration was held under the theme: ‘Stakeholders should work together to protect children during conflict and crisis’, Radio Easter reports.
 
During the occasion, children called for peace and an end to war to avoid further abuse of their rights.
 
They demanded the law enforcement agents to ensure proper implementation of the Acts protecting the rights of children.
 
Plan International Advisor on Child Protection in South Sudan, Achelina Alal, urged the local community to immediately report cases of child abuses to the authorities for justice to prevail.
 
Meanwhile Yei River State Political Advisor, Jackson Abugo Gama, acknowledged that children are growing in great fear due to the crisis.
 
He stressed the need to collectively respond to children’s rights.
 
The celebration was organized by Plan International, Community Empowerment for Rehabilitation and Development and Yei River County Gender, Child and Social Welfare.
 
The event drew together officials from government, nongovernmental organizations, school children, women and the local residents.
