The Transitional Government of National Unity is now opening a new page for South Sudan, observes the UN Undersecretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations.

Herve Ladsous, who is visiting South Sudan to evaluate the progress of the implementation of the agreement, sees huge tasks of the Government.

He points out that the government has the responsibility to stabilize security, economy, address food insecurity and the question of the number of states.

Ladsous says the UN remains focused on addressing humanitarian situation, peace building and construction of infrastructure for stabilization of the economy.

The UN Undersecretary says South Sudan does not deserve suffering since it is gifted with fertile soil and other valuable resources.

He believes the country will prosper in the long run after stability and construction of infrastructure.

Ladsous says about 25 thousand internally displaced persons sheltering in Bentiu UN Protection of Civilians Site have returned home.

He stresses that the UN Security Council remains focused on South Sudan with the question of human rights’ abuses fresh in mind.
